Planning, Design & Construction

Planning, Design and Construction (PD&C) provides services to improve the physical environment in support of MU’s institutional mission and vision, managing all efforts in the design and construction of new structures, renovation and repair projects, and infrastructure development. It also provides MU with facility designs that optimize quality, timeliness and cost effectiveness.

Project Management guides MU colleagues through the planning and design process, selects and oversees the work of commissioned architects, engineers and consultants, and coordinates the input of campus stakeholders to ensure that facility designs advance the University’s mission, are functional and meet campus standards. Project managers coordinate studies, masterplans, designs and construction documents for new structures, renovation and repair projects, and infrastructure development.

Design Services, our in-house design team, provides a cost-effective means of delivering small and medium sized projects for our campus colleagues. The unit provides architectural, interior design and engineering services primarily for renovation and repair projects.

Construction Management directs the physical implementation of facility designs. Construction project managers serve as the owner’s agent to oversee the work and schedule of the contractor during construction to minimize the impact to MU daily operations, ensure quality, and provide accountability for all expenditures.
